Cnoc na Long Local Area & Links

Cnoc na Long is in Achosnich, a gathering of six houses, three and a half miles north of the village of Kilchoan. A short climb up the hill behind the house gives a stunning view across Sanna Bay looking north towards the islands of Muck, Rhum, Eigg, Canna and Skye.

Within easy walking distance is the village of Portuairk, and a plethora of beaches, rock pools and scrambling rocks on the north coast of the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Two miles west of Achosnich is Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, the most westerly point on the British mainland

The village of Kilchoan is the focal point of West Ardnamurchan.   Its ammenities include a shop and post office, church, hotel, pub and Community Centre with tourist information.

A ferry runs throughout the year from Kilchoan to Tobermory on the island of Mull. One mile south of Achosnich, on the road to Kilchoan is the Sonachan Hotel, offering evening meals and snacks. Across from the hotel is the West Ardnamurchan Community Garden, a recently developed project encouraging the growing and eating of locally produced seasonal food. Ardnamurchan Lighthouse, as well as being a visitor’s attraction in its own right with museum and trips up the lighthouse tower, also boasts a café and gift shop.

A kilchoan diary describes daily life in Kilchoan and Western Ardnamurchan and is a wonderful site for  reading more about the history and natural beauty of the area
